The billionaire says the commission is also probing his brain-chip company, Neuralink.
The Securities and Exchange Commission stated it is investigating “the matter of certain purchases, sales, and disclosures of Twitter shares.” The billionaire began buying shares in Twitter before he acquired the company.
An SEC spokesperson said, “It is the policy of the SEC to conduct investigations on a confidential basis to preserve the integrity of its investigative process. The SEC therefore does not comment on the existence or nonexistence of a possible investigation.”
Musk’s attorney stated the SEC also issued a “settlement demand” for payment or face enforcement action. The attorney said the commission has engaged in “a multi-year investigation and more than six years of harassment.”
Elon Musk also said the SEC reopened its investigation of his brain-ship company, Neuralink.
